"I have used Gozo cabs several times. They are a massive outstation car provider serving other websites. If you book from MMT, you book from Gozo. 1. The long distance cab market is terrible in India. Drivers drive badly. They are paid terribly. Cars are old and beat up. 2. Cars are owned in opaque layers by operators who contract with Gozo. You book a car. They assign an operator or a cab (I don’t know their backend). This means if that operator/driver/cab doesn’t show up at your assigned time, or that cab driver is unwell, the only thing they can do is find you another operator/cab driver. Your feedback can prevent that cab from getting another booking. But your booking depends on that car and driver you get. 3. Before you start, clarify how you will record everything. Take a picture of the dashboard. Make sure you have an understanding on state taxes. How will tolls get billed. You don’t have to pay for your drivers lunch etc but it is courtesy to in India and I do. Any meal we eat, the driver gets the drivers meal. Usually about 150. Each night half, you can give the driver money or not. Theoretically Gozo pays the driver 250 but actually the operator has a different payment scheme with the driver. If you don’t pay for a place to sleep the guy sleeps in the car. Two issues with that. First is the moral issue. You do you. I am not lecturing. Second is the practical issue that I want my driver super well rested. I pay for drivers dormitory accommodation so the guy sleeps and has a place to wash up. This is purely an economic argument. I don’t want to be in a car crash. I have taken literally hundreds of cabs in India. It is a shitshow. The drivers work nonstop. Even if you book from a local shop, the driver will tell you the vehicle is theirs but the reality is likely to be that the vehicle comes from this same pool of vendors. The best strategy is budget time for the driver to sleep and a bit of money to pay for their food and rest. I call them 2-3 hours before I need to leave. Let them park and rest on my dime. They do, at times, drive all night and then show up to drive the next morning with close to zero sleep. Then try to manage them as we go along. Because on the highway, one error is all it takes for me to end up bed ridden. Do that, and Gozo is an excellent company. Several trips later, I have zero major issues. It is half the price of hiring locally (and all the typical reviews of leaving someone stranded — yep, your local cab walla will do exactly that to — the system is terrible). Those go away if you call early and budget for uncertainty."
